FileFox is a file-search app for macOS made by Baja Sky Studios. If anything isn't working, or you have a question or a feature request, we want to hear from you.
We answer every message, typically within 1–2 business days. Please include your macOS version (Apple menu → About This Mac) and what you were doing when the problem happened.
FileFox only indexes folders you explicitly add. Open FileFox, click the folder menu in the header (or FileFox → Settings), and use Add Folder… to grant access. macOS may also ask permission the first time FileFox touches Documents, Desktop, or Downloads — click Allow. To review permissions later, see System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files & Folders.
New and changed files are usually searchable within seconds. If a file still doesn't appear, make sure it's inside one of your indexed folders, then choose File → Re-index (⌘R) to force a fresh pass.
Another app may already own that shortcut. Open FileFox → Settings and pick a different chord (⌃Space, ⌃⌥Space, or ⇧⌘Space). FileFox keeps running in the menu bar after you close the window — click the fox icon to bring it back anytime.
Reading text out of images (OCR) runs at low priority so it never slows your Mac. A large batch can take a while, and it pauses in Low Power Mode or when your Mac runs hot. Leave FileFox running and it will finish in the background — the status line under the search field shows progress.
Remove a folder from the folder menu or Settings and its data leaves the index immediately. Deleting the app (and its container) removes the entire index — nothing is stored anywhere except your Mac.
No. Indexing, OCR, and meaning search all run on-device with Apple's built-in frameworks. FileFox has no account, no analytics, and no networking. Details in our privacy policy.
